It seems that the current civil war system is tuned to wars between different dynasties, not to wars inside the dynasty.
Whenever the throne is usurped, the usurper can usually decide what to do with the old royal family - execute them all or send them into exile. In case the usurper is of the same dynasty, this system is completely broken.
Here's what happens in my game. (I settled one relative and switched to him just before loosing. Later I reloaded and used the console to give the usurper one county to make him playable and switched to him - the result was the same.)
1) The war ends with the old king in hiding. The old king automatically joins another court.
2) The usurper decides to declare all the relatives of the old king enemies of the realm... and this decision somehow "exiles" the old king back to the usurper's court. (This is the main reason I'm posting this in the bug section. I don't think this is meant to happen.)
3) What's even worse, after declaring that he wants their heads, the usurper doesn't do anything with the deposed king. The deposed one hates the usurper, but the usurper has a positive opinion of the old king, which seems strange.
The current system deals with the wars between the Targaryens and Blackfyres (and later Baratheons etc.) quite well. But the situations like the fight between Maegor and Aegon-Jaehaerys and later Aegon and Rhaenyra do not fit. The scenarios probably include all the necessary events, but situations like these can arise in any start and will always arise in any long-run. There's nothing uncommon in an uncle usurping the throne, right? Maybe this system could be somehow elaborated to cover these situations better?
The westeros_civil_war file is the key here. Maybe the game should check if the old king and the usurper are of the same dynasty. If they are not - then the current system is applied. But if they ARE... Well, then all the close relatives of the old king that are not close relatives of the usurper should definitely be targetted by the usurper (of course, if he decides to go after them). Even the close relatives should be sometimes targetted. The uncle should definitely go after the siblings of a deposed nephew, right? The only people he will definitely not prosecute are his own children.
P.S. At least I'd like to know how to use the console to set the needed flags manually. I guess the "exiled_royal_family" flag should be assigned right before the usurper decides what to do with the defeated side?
