Better Congenital Traits is a mod. It changes the inheritance of congenital traits. In theory, those changes make the game better.
For aGoT Vanilla
For aGoT - More Bloodlines Submod
0.0.2e - BCT for MBS -aGoT updated again, more_bloodlines_events now account for BCT (I think).
BCT takes my inheritance events from The Winter King, and uses them to make congenital traits work on a sliding scale. If you've played Lancelot_Loire's mod, it's basically the same concept. It also expands the strength traits for dragons, how strength traits interact with cradle eggs, and a few modifiers to dragon growth. Childhood and valyrian expedition events make use of these expanded traits, as do many historical characters.
After I finish polishing localisations and assigning traits to historical characters - the latter of which will take a while - I will be out of alpha. Then, I'll take a page from IG's book, and switch to an allele-inheritance model, assuming the aGoT CKII dev cycle is slow enough for me to continuously update the histories. The mod will be out of beta whenever I am content that new genetics system has fully permeated all of the background stuff it's supposed to, like bloodlines.
I believe I that MBS and vanilla use different character history files, however, so I wanted to publish this alpha and ask whether folks would prefer I develop for one or the other. It's annoying to redo traits for historical characters over and over, which is why the original BCT died out in all places except TWK - I really doubt I'll be able to keep a compatible version with both sets of histories. Hence the poll.

Sounds great! Any chance of this being compatible with More Bloodlines and Better looking garbs after it comes out?

Sounds great! Any chance of this being compatible with More Bloodlines and Better looking garbs after it comes out? The votes seem to be telling me just to redo the histories for More Bloodlines, so if it stays that way, 0.0.2 will be a MBS version. I don't think I'd need to do a compatch for Better Looking Garbs specifically, but I guess I would if I had to?

I don't think BLG edits event, decisions or history files so I wouldn't think it would need anything.

Oh shoot! sorry! I mean, will the sliding congential traits be used to change appearance? The way ugly and attractive is shown in BLG. Though there might need to be a compatch for that.

Thank you for the mod! i don't use MBS anymore due to having a potato GPU and it slowing down my game considerably but as long as this 0.0.1 version works fine i don't mind sticking with it.

Well, I'm hoping that BLG uses the "is_attractive" trigger for that. If it does, then it'll work as is. But, if it checks for the traits I will put that on the to-do list. Maybe I'll even start using it, myself.

Really excited to switch over to this from Congenital Overhaul once Improved Genetics makes it in.

Would be excited to see it happen for both vanilla and MBS wich is a biased opinion but if a choise has to be made consider to go for the vanilla version so there's a solid base to expand from when making compatches. Anyone could then be able to make compatch. I started an attempt collecting canon details for characters that would benefit from better congenital traits based on CO. If only to show the impact and benefit they will have. For example both Jaime and Tywin can be the first level of tall as they have been mentioned being tall in canon. Osha would could also gain the tall trait and arguably even the tall_1 version because when extrapolating the data from Bran's comparison about her with Rob and later Catelyn's comparison about Rob who'd be estimated around 1.60-1.70.... Osha could be around 20-30cm taller even. Bran mentions her being a head taller then Rob. So yeah if Osha would be around 1.85-1.95, would she fit the tall or tall_1 category. Having different voice traits might seem silly at first, but can open some really cool flavour options if they are a fleshed out part of the game. Think of different flavour options for bards, singers and musicians and the kind of different instrument artifacts that can be introduced. Ruff allready made a really cool base for it in MBS with the Lute bard.
Only a few characters have been fleshed out so far, but it's a start that might be of use for you.

Only a few characters have been fleshed out so far, but it's a start that might be of use for you. I would really appreciate trait-suggestion lists for more minor characters, but I think I already gave Tywin, Jamie, and Cersei "tall". No problem making Osha tall.
I'm pretty sure this has all the voice traits, which LL and I both owe to VIET, and which were in the original pdox forums BCT.
I realize that, for most things, it's easiest to compatch from vanilla, but for a mod that alters every single character history file, that means a lot of work. I will try to keep both versions updated, but I'll do the full character history overhaul on the next version of MBS, when it drops.

Is the allele-inheritance model next?

Is the allele-inheritance model next? I will probably do another pass through historical traits and tighten up the localization, first. Also, I have some small tweaks to valyrian swords to do. (Player dynasties should be able to reforge a sword such that the inheritance works like Dark Sister.)
But I probably need to write the allele events before I make bloodlines influence congenital traits, so that's pretty high on the list. Not sure how long it'll take, though.

If you downloaded 0.0.2, I'm sorry. Download 0.0.2a, which is not broken, as far as I can tell.
