What dynasty, kingdom, lordship? What timeframe (including submods)? Any particular custom rules?
Does everybody play as the Iron Throne or Lords Paramount or do people play small too, like in base CK2?
If playing small, do you not find the cost of getting upgrades daunting vs the ease of losing them, or just your income level?
Or do you focus instead of moving onto a higher tier ASAP? If so, are you daunted by the randomness of males leaving your dynasty when inheriting a title, or how the AI breaks certain marriages/betrothals, so that peaceful inheritance is harder to achieve than in base CK2 (but probably more realistic)?
What's your playing style in general, when you don't play the ovious Starks, Stannis or Jon Snow (or Cersei) in the default start date?
Right now, I'm playing my first game yet, myself. Just couldn't resists the After the Spring bookmark when I saw ser Eustace married to Lady Webber. I had half feared she could have some events scripted for her children, and I knew ser Eustace was already old, but I wanted to try to get some offspring and inherit Coldmoat, perhaps work it up from there, recreat the Northmarch, bring back some Chequy glory. Came faster than I'd hoped. Lord Rowan (of Goldengrove) created the High Lordship of Northmarch as his secondary title, meeting the conditions from day 1. However, his vassals (faction or plot) pressured him to grant away that title, which he refused to do, but the Tyrells stepped in and… regranted it to old ser Eustace, so it was ruled from the old tower at Standfast. Eventually inherited Coldmoat too.
… Eventually further, ended up becoming the LP of the Reach, but that's a longer story. As Reach, I'm focusing on the upgrades now, as I see little else to do, bar the occasional punitive expeditions to the Iron Islands and such like, as well as trying to inherit another kingdom to increase my manpower and bring back the Darkfyres or just any Targs, after they lost the Throne to Elective and then to Primo in the new dynasty. Likely going to be me, just intermarried close enough to count as a feasible heir, as it may be heard to do otherwise. I'm slowly looking for things to do, but for the time being upgrading Highgarden and propagating my dynasty (I seem to have hit several generations of low fertility and mostly female offspring, including already being a matri-Osgrey and patri-Oakheart at this point, while some patri-Osgreys exist as matri-Celtigars).
For my next game, I'm thinking about Tristifer Mudd, the Hammer of Justice — or even Tristifer the Last. Or perhaps the Royces as High Kings resisting ser Artys Arryn.
Somehow can't get myself to play in the default timeframe of ASoIaF… or perhaps it's just the other frames being so much more interesting. If I did, I'd probably play as Howland Reed — Start loyalist, but not Stark himself, not as ethically questionable as the half-mad Lord Manderly… not the only possible pick but still a good one. Nothing against the Glovers or Tallharts, though. The game plan would be to restore the Starks, perhaps inherit them too, but not as a hostile takeover. … Or all the way south to Dorne, such as the Daynes. Kind of feel the Yronwoods calling out to me, though not sure which timeframe.
The Blackwoods perhaps, for climbing back to Riverkings. Or the Justman dynasty, if it can be found somewhere playable, for old time's sake.
Initially, I'd thought I'd pick some early Stark start and just play an isolationist North and focus on good governance and upgrades, but that's lost appeal to me somewhat. Perhaps something for a later day.
