I think some changes for Iron Islands to fit the lore and game mechanics a little better is needed.
For starters I suggest removing the Duchy of Seastone Isles and giving each island a Duchy.
1. This makes the AI or Human have to more break up their Iron Islands holdings rather than holding half of it alone under 1 Duchy with no negative malus from vassals.
2. Under an Elective law each island then votes similar to how a Kingsmoot works. If this mod ever goes crazy early this would easily signify the petty Rock Kings of each island.
3. If this mod ever gets tech without this their Kingdom would have a hugely unfair disadvantage.
4. Poor Lonely Light won't be forgotten about for a Duchy title! Has to be the only count in the game that always reports directly to a King!
My step by step changes:
Before:
Blacktyde (Duchy Seastone Isles)
--------------
House Blacktyde of Blacktyde Castle.*
After:
Blacktyde (Duchy of Blacktyde)
--------------
House Blacktyde of Blacktyde Castle.**
Changes:
Nothing different here. Other than Blacktyde gets it's own Duchy.
Before:
Great Wyk (Duchy of Great Wyk)
----------------
(Sealskin Point)
House Farwynd of Sealskin Point*
House Goodbrother of Corpse Lake
(HammerHorn)
House Goodbrother of Hammerhorn**
House Goodbrother of Crow Spike Keep
House Sparr of Great Wyk - The Sparr
(Pebbleton)
House Merlyn of Pebbleton Tower*
Pebbleton
House Goodbrother of Downdelving
After:
Great Wyk (Duchy of Great Wyk) (Ore in Hardstone Hills)
----------------
(Sealskin Point)
House Farwynd of Sealskin Point*
House Farwynd Cadet
House Farwynd Cadet
House Hoare of Hoare Castle
(Hardstone Hills) Add BIG Mine
House Goodbrother of Hammerhorn*
House Goodbrother of Crow Spike Keep
House Goodbrother of Corpse Lake
House Goodbrother of Downdelving
(Pebbleton)
House Merlyn of Pebbleton Tower*
Pebbleton
House Sparr of Great Wyk - The Sparr
House Ironmaker
Changes:
Sealskin Point gets two Cadet branches. The lore mentions several cadet branches of Farwynd on at Sealskin Point with the ones on Lonely Light being the more odd. Also, balance against the other two territories.
House Hoare had a castle on this island before it was destroyed. It should be added back in to for possible rebuilding.
Castle Hammerhorn is said to be in the Hardstone Hills region. I suggest renaming Hammerhorn Territory to Hardstone Hills.
All the Goodbrothers together. Corpse Lake was actually in the middle of the island anyway and it's odd having Goodbrother branches potentialy forced to fight their own if the other counts raise them.
Moved House Sparr over to replace the moved Goodbrother for balance. It's actually close to that region anyway.
Hardstone Hills region needs some kind of HUGE mine income. It's said the Goodbrothers never have to leave their island to reave because they make some much money from mining the ore from the hills.
Nobody starts with the Great Wyk Duchy as all Houses report to the King.
Finally, House Ironmaker should have a home and I would put it here. They are not a new house and by the name alone I would assume they make weapons from the Goodbrother ore desposits.
Before:
Harlaw (Harlaw)
----------------
(StoneTree)
House Stonetree of Harlaw - The Stonehouse
(Harlaw Hill)
House Harlaw of Harlaw - Ten Towers**Late Game
House Harlaw of Harlaw Hall**Early Game
House Myre of Harlaw
House Harlaw of Grey Garden
House Harlaw of the Tower of Glimmering
House Harlaw of Harridan Hill
(Volmark)
House Volmark of Volmark
House Kenning of Harlaw
After:
Harlaw (Duchy of Harlaw)
----------------
(Kenning)
House Kenning of Harlaw*
House Stonetree of Harlaw
(Harlaw Hills)
House Harlaw of Harlaw - Ten Towers** Late Game
House Harlaw of Harlaw Hall** Early Game
House Harlaw of Grey Garden
House Harlaw of the Tower of Glimmering
House Harlaw of Harridan Hill
(Volmark)
House Volmark of Volmark*
House Myre of Harlaw
Changes:
House Kenning moved and becomes Counts. Newly renamed from Province Stonetree. House Kenning has a cadet Branch in the Westerlands and used to be one of the BIG 3 before Harlaw took over the island. No reason they should be so low. I also thought it was silly the cadet branch would be stronger than the main house.
House Stonetree moved down to Baron level.
House Myre of Harlaw moved to Volmark. They were the other of the Big 3. If the game ever goes early enough this lets you set up a 3 way fight for Duke.
Before:
Lonely Light (No Duchy)
----------------
House Farwynd of the Lonely Light
After:
Lonely Light (Duchy of Lonely Light)
----------------
House Farwynd of the Lonely Light**
Seahall of Last Sunset (Holy Site)
Changes:
Give the poor folks a Duchy.
It's a Holy Site in game. Build it's temple so it's not accidently not built and I named it Last Sunset because being the farthest known land west it obviously will see the last sunset of every day.
Before:
Old Wyk (Duchy of Seastone Isles)
---------------
House Drumm of Old Wyk*
House Stonehouse of Old Wyk
House Goodbrother of Shatterstone
Seahall of Seastone Hill
Castle of Nagga's Hill
After:
Old Wyk (Duchy of Old Wyk)
---------------
House Drumm of Old Wyk**
House Stonehouse of Old Wyk
House Goodbrother of Shatterstone
Seahall of the Grey King (Holy Site)
Changes:
House Drumm cannon wise are Dukes of Old Wyk with the other houses their banners. They should be so rather than lumped with the other islands.
Castle of Nagga's Hill and the fake house made no sense. Made up Building should be removed.
Seahall of the Grey King should be the new holy site. Which is on Nagga's Hill
Before:
Orkmont (Seastone Isles)
---------------
House Orkwood of Orkmont*
House Tawney of Orkmont
After:
Orkmont (Duchy of Orkmont) (Rich Ore Mine)
---------------
House Tawney of Orkmont*
House Orkwood of Orkmont
House Goodbrother of Orkmont
House Hoare of Old Hoare Castle
House Greyiron of Greyiron Castle
Changes:
Orkmont has a proud tradition of Kings because it was rich in Ore giving them a leg up. It too should also have a some kind of mine.
Tawney should be Counts for the island and Orkwood should be the baron. House Tawney is said to be one of Greyjoys strongest houses.
House Goodbrother of Orkmont was forgotten!!!
Old Hoare Castle should be an open spot to rebuild. They started here before leaving.
House Greyinon used to rule from Orkmont as well another open spot to rebuild.
Orkmont needs the love as this was a strong island that fueled power before the Greyjoys.
Before:
Pyke (Duchy of Pyke)
---------------
(Pyke)
House Greyjoy of Pyke**
House Wynch of Iron Holt
House Codd of Coddhall
Seahall of Sea Grave
(Lordsport)
House Botley of Lordsport*
House Botley of Axfirth
City of Lordsport
After:
Pyke (Duchy of Pyke)
---------------
(Pyke)
House Greyjoy of Pyke**
House Wynch of Iron Holt Castle
City of Iron Holt
House Codd of Coddhall
House Humble
Seahall of Sea Grave (Holy Site)
(Lordsport)
House Botley of Lordsport*
City of Lordsport
House Sharp -
House Weaver - Young
House Shepherd - Young
House Netley - Young
Changes:
To Pyke side:
Pyke needs to be more of a heavyweight! They are they King.
Iron Holt and Lordsport are cities/villages and between them hold most of the Iron Born that live on the island. Iron Holt needs to be a city too to reflect that and explains how they fund everything!
House Wynch moves to a Castle since Iron Holt is a city. Just like Lordsport and Pebbleton already in game work.
House Humble has no known home. However, they have the same background as House Codd and supported the same at Kingsmoot. Place them here to beef up the Greyjoys and they too probably came out of the cities.
To Lordsport side:
Lordsport was looking pretty weak for the largest populated area in the whole region. House Sharp has no known house location currently but they supported the Greyjoys. Makes some sense to place them here.
House Shepard, House Netley, and House Weaver are newer younger houses that supported the Greyjoys. It makes sense they would spring up around the largest city of the Iron Islands. They can be open settlement areas on early starts to weaken Pyke.
Castle of Axfirth is made up. Rather than go complete make believe let's remove this Castle and balance it with the plausible House Sharp.
Before:
Saltcliffe (Duchy of Pyke)
---------------
House Saltcliffe of Saltcliffe*
House Sunderly of Saltcliffe
After:
Saltcliffe (Duchy of Saltfliffe)
---------------
House Saltcliffe of Saltcliffe*
House Sunderly of Saltcliffe
Changes:
None really besides not being a part of the Duchy of Pyke. The import bit is they shouldn't be a part of the Duchy of Pyke because the only reason they report to the Greyjoys is because they are King. Makes little sense if they are not like the early start.
Personally I wouldn't start them with the Duke title because both houses report to the Greyjoys but they will just form the title after game starts anyway.
Thank you for reading!
