So I was nearing the end of my character's lifespan and practically ran out of ambitions to pursue. I decided to choose the "Become Regent" ambition just to have something there, and ended up actually succeeding when I petitioned my liege lord to designate me as regent should anything happen to him. However, this did not fulfill the ambition.
Upon further inspection, the ambition appeared to be broken, as the criteria that need to be fulfilled for it to succeed look like this:
Become Regent:
%NAME% wishes to become the Regent of his liege. Success Condition: (X) Liege: Success Effect:: Gain 30.00 Prestige
What's up with that and what can I do about it?

The ambition isn't fulfilled until you actually become the regent, i.e., when your liege goes on a journey, becomes incapable, or in some other situation in which a regent is needed.

The ambition isn't fulfilled until you actually become the regent, i.e., when your liege goes on a journey, becomes incapable, or in some other situation in which a regent is needed. On top of this it allows you to try to get your liege declared incapable under certain circumstances: OR = { trait = inbred trait = imbecile trait = lunatic is_crippled_trigger = yes trait = infirm has_epidemic = yes } ...and if that plot succeeds, you will become regent. EDIT: is_crippled_trigger means one of the Crippled or Mangled traits.

Some lifestyle choices increase a chance for a regency to happen, or a soceity like the maesters, wich will call in a regency whenever you'd go making a link.
