Hi guys,
Thanks for the great mod. Done a few play throughs recently as pirate / corsair and here are some suggestions / ideas for you.
In a nutshell I feel like the raiding is a little easy and the AI pirate / corsair vassals act a little too much like feudal lords. Since you start so low compared to the other realms, keeping raiding easy while making your vassals more of a pain in the ass / money sink might help balance things out.
Government
- You shouldn't be able to revoke the last country from a vassal if they have a certain amount of prestige or martial / diplomacy. Either that or their loyal crew rises up instantly in rebellion.
- For your counties / dutchy you should be able to nominate your heir OR have your strongest heir be automatically selected based on traits or martial score. Currently I can just hand out a county to my prefered heir and he becomes my heir. Seems a bit gamey.
- Upon forming a Kingdom level title, pirates / corsair government type should become similar to a merchant republic where in you have to donate gold in order to get your heir elected to hold the Kingdom. How much you have to donate to win should also depend on their (and your?) prestige and perhaps other things such as martial score.
- Upon succession, the gold that all candidates contributed should be pooled and shared equally between all electors (counts/ dukes) including the winner.
- Counts or dukes that hate you or think your heir is too weak should have a chance to break away especially during succession. Perhaps % chance depending on how high your prestiege is or how much gold they stand to get during the succession.
Religion
- I feel piety isn't currently even a consideration for a pirate / corsair. It currently can't be spent on anything and no-one seems to care if you even have negative piety. Perhaps you earn it from sharing your loot, successful raids and can spend it on raising an event spawned raiding party. I guess there are other options here, tbqh it should probably be named something completely different pre-reformation.
- Corsair and pirate religions should be able to be reformed. Lots of options for some fun stuff here.
- I imagine this religion would be warlike and based around sacrifice and superstition so peaceful reformation options would possibly be disabled from being selected. Either that or the peaceful option that disables raiding and takes you down the 'serious business feudal route" would remove the "pirate" trait while being able to continue to raid would keep it.
Misc
- Need to customise the random attack merchant ships event you get while leading a raiding fleet that says "Ironborn longships etc" since you're not Ironborn.
- During a pirate revolt you should be able to support either the rebellion or the vassal with perhaps a opinion malus with your other vassals if you support the rebellion. 90% of the time they just sit there on the county until their war score runs out and lose.
- Independent pirate realms seem to need a bit of a buff (levy replacement time perhaps) or be more aggressive as they don't seem to be annoying enough, especially towards a pirate / corsair player or even other realms.
- AI rulers don't tend to upgrade their pirate dens (probably due to the high cost) meaning they stay small and easily conquered. Perhaps make more levels of this with a lower upgrade cost / buffs to entice the AI to build them?
- When returning your loot after raiding, perhaps have an event where commanders (especially ones that were present or greedy/ ambitious etc) demand a share.
- Increase the amount of prestige commanders receive from raiding and battles in order to make them (if landed) more likely to win an election (if you hold a kingdom).
- Some more "piratey" events would definitely be welcome. Buy a pet parrot, go drinking with your crew, make sure you have enough rum etc.
- It's very easy to win against large realms especially when playing in the Basilisk Isles since they just bring tiny amounts of troops and drop them on your capital, or they don't have enough ships to even get to you. Probably a Paradox AI problem here though.
- Perhaps a diplomacy event where realms can decide to pay you off so you can't raid them for X years.
- Pirates should be able to build nerfed trade ports. Simply since it stops you farming all the merchant republic ports they build in your counties lol.
- What is the deal with the Lady of the Waves religion?
Once again, thanks a lot for the effort you've put into this mod and I hope my suggestions give you some ideas to help flesh out the pirates and corsairs a bit more since they're so fun to play currently and could be even greater.
I welcome anyone else to make some suggestions / weigh in on mine. Cheers
