Is coffee, as we know it, present in the asoiaf universe?
I can't see why coffea itself wouldn't be, referring to like, the plant. But have people gone through the process to make the drink? I've done a wee bit of poking around myself in some of the books and on the web but I didn't find any mention of it, so does anyone know of any instance that confirms its existence?

There's no coffe or chocolate in ASOIAF If you don't mind me asking, is there a source on that? I'd just really like there to be lol

To my knowledge coffee is never mentioned in the books or in the world of ice and fire, which makes sense as it is from the americas in our world, which doesn't have a reflection in planetos, as of yet. I don't think you find a source saying there is no coffee.

Coffee the drink originated in Yemen/Southern Arabia. The plants itself existed in several areas though. I think he might have actually mentioned Chocolate which the cocao plant is native to the America continents. iceandfire.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_Food_and_BeveragesFrom the looks of it the only beverages are alcoholic and milk. Which makes sense for the time period the fantasy setting is (Middle ages).

Cheers to all responses, thanks lads. Since it hasn't been mentioned, I'll go ahead and assume it at the very least is not present in Westeros in any significant amount. But, since it did originate in Africa/Arabia, it's probably present somewhere to the East or even South (I'm assuming it does indeed exist in the world). What's the most likely candidate for it being native? Qarth? The Summer Isles? Coffee began being drank as early as the 12-15th century (big gap but given my ten minutes of research it's what I feel confident giving) so it's more likely that the plant itself is present than the actual drink, but feel free to correct me on that point, or any of these, I'm no coffee expert, I just like drinking it and was curious lol.

As early as 850CE it was around as an undomesticated plant in Ethiopia and Yemen. I could actually see the Essos lands as having some form of coffee or beverage similar to it, besides alcohol and milk. Humans have rarely consumed just water due to disease

There is a story that says the coffee was discovered by a shepherd, whose goats ate the coffee berries and were stimulated. Surely the coffee grows in Qohor, and as they kill the goats they have not discovered it yet ... xD. Not seriously, if the coffee grows, he will do it in Qarth as his desert is the most arid, as well as arabia (and I do not know if Ethiopia too). The cocoa will grow in Sothoryos, and in the absence of large expeditions it was not discovered yet. (Google translator)

Apologies, I did confuse it with chocolate. I do believe tea has been mentioned though, mint and nettle if I am recall correctly. I feel if coffee was produced in Qarth it would have been mentioned. If it did exist, perhaps the Hyrkoon states.

Of course there's also tansy tea and moon tea, but I don't think those are true teas and probably shouldn't be drunk on a regular basis, heh.

(Google translator) I think is past the time we get a chapter of a random merchant going to the Guild os Spicers in Qarth just to negotiate some stuff, would be fun to see GRRM taking his time to talk about the things growing around his world that don't show up in Westeros. xD
