Firstly, I just want to say that I've been having a blast with the new update. Seems to be the most stable version yet, I don't think I've suffered a single crash and I can FINALLY tag-switch to an empire-tier Valyrian without a CTD. I've nearly reached 3400 hours in CK2 and I think 70-80% of that is with this amazing mod active. Keep up the good work guys! Regarding my question, I've noticed that only the Targaryens have access to the Valyrian armour designs (now with an awesome-looking helmet!). Members of House Velaryon, High Valyrian members of Houses Celtigar and Qoherys, as well as Essosi Valyrians, seem to now use the old Westerosi-style armour. They still seem to have access to all the other Valyrian garbs. As I cannot seem to find any reference to this in the changelog, I was wondering if this was an intended change or just a problem with my particular installation.

I notice that they only wear it if their liege is a targ or blackfyre. Same with westerlands and lannister armor. It makes me really sad :c

For me, that only seems to be the case for baron and count-tier titles. As Lord Daemon Velaryon, I was sporting Valyrian armour when leading armies as a commander for Aegon. However, after acquiring the duke-tier High Lordship of Dragonstone, I seem to only wear the generic armour regardless of whether or not I'm leading crown forces or my own. I haven't tested this with a king/lord paramount-tier Valyrian character with a Targ liege yet though.
While I will miss it I can live with it for the most part. Saying that however, one of my Velaryon characters managed to tame a wild dragon whilst bumping around the ruins of Valyria looking for a sword. I'm now a dragon rider but I still sport the generic armour instead of that sexy dragon-esque Valyrian armour. It just feels... wrong. Perhaps if they also made the armour available to Valyrian-cultured characters with the 'Dragon Rider' trait, I'd be fine with it. Same goes for the 'Valyrian steel armour' artefact. I haven't acquired it yet in 1.6 so I can't say for sure, but I am going to assume that it won't have any affect on your portrait.

I 100% agree, I was very disappointed to learn that if I depose the lannisters I can't keep their sexy armor. Alas I have nearly 0 talent in modding aside from simple text edits and I also wouldn't know where to start so we're stuck with how it is ;-;

Hi You have to edit Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II\mod\A Game of Thrones\interface\portrait_properties\00_portrait_properties.txt. For example, I edited this file to allow dragon riders and their banner-men to wear Valyrian armors (see attachment). Attachment Deleted

Thanks very much, this is JUST the sort of thing I was looking for.
Do you also know how to enable it for characters with the Valyrian armour artefact equipped?

Would you care to clarify what we need to change in the portraits properties to make it so any High Valyrians use Valyrian Armour?

magtaius : just add these lines after line 1317 in 00_portrait_properties.txt: AND = { # is High Valyrian culture = high_valyrian
culture_group = valyrian } However, I noticed it doesn't work if the government type is a merchant republic. ManicMayo: it will be complicated because the Valyrian armour is the valyrian great armour GFX. If a non valyrian character wears a valyrian armour, he will wear his great armour according to his culture (not the black armour). We need to modify the dds files in order to add the black armor GFX. For now, you can add this lines to allow ONLY high valyrians who own an equipped valyrian armour (after line 1317): AND = { # High Valyrian and owns an equipped valyrian armour culture = high_valyrian culture_group = valyrian any_artifact = { #Valyrian armor and equipped AND = { artifact_type = valyrian_armour is_artifact_equipped = yes } }
}
