Download Link: Expanded Roads 0.2
This is a small personal submod of mine that I've been using for quite some time, and I've finally decided to release it to the public. Expanded Roads is a simple mod that expands the Kingsroad up through the neck and Moat Cailin before continuing north up through Winterfell and finally ending at Castle Black. Creating a Kingsroad that looks more like this. The Kingsroad is long and winding, and it's length all the way up to the Night's Watch is mentioned in the books:
The causeway of the kingsroad is the only safe way through the Neck, although the crannogmen know of other routes through the swampy terrain. The formidable ruins of Moat Cailin guard the northern edge of the Neck. After Moat Cailin, the kingsroad travels north through the barrowlands, the southeastern wolfswood, and a tributary of the White Knife to Winterfell, the seat of House Stark in the north. Once the kingsroad moves beyond Winterfell, inns are still available and farms are guarded by holdfasts. West of the road lie the flint foothills of the northern mountains and to the east are rolling plains.Three days ride north of Winterfell the road becomes more sparsely travelled, journeying through the northeastern wolfswood and then going west of Long Lake and Last Hearth.
After leaving the lands of House Umber, the kingsroad enters the territory of the Night's Watch, passing through the Gift and near Queenscrown. The kingsroad passes Mole's Town and ends at Castle Black at the Wall. Near the Wall it is a twisty ribbon, narrow, stony, and pocked with weeds.
A new road representing the Causeway is situated in the provinces up through the northern neck, which have a decreased movement speed compared to the actual Kingsroad, to represent the difficulty of going up the only dry road into the north.
This submod also adds two new roads in the south—the Stoneway, better known as the Boneway, which begins at Summerhall in the Dornish Marches and terminates at Yronwood, while the Prince's Pass begins in Nightsong and passes south to Skyreach.
Both Dornish roads are active at all start dates, because they weren't built perse—I assigned an arbitrary year of 6000, so that's one thing to keep in mind if you're using earlier start date submods. Otherwise, the remainder of the King's Road remains the same, shows up during Jaehaerys' reign and exists going forward. You can build the road as well, and whenever you build the northern section of the road, it will include the new parts that I've included.
Overall, a relatively simple mood, it shouldn't have too many impacts or effects on other mods, though localisation additions have been made to the asoiaf.csv file, so just bare in mind that the miles might need to be reconciled if you use another submod that effects that file. Hope you guys enjoy!
v0.2:
- Updated for 2.0
- Added the Sand Road in Essos, which runs from Qarth to Bayasabhad
- Added the Steel Road, which runs east from Vaes Dothrak to Kayakayanaya and around the Great Sand Sea to Trader's Town
- Added the Stone Road, which runs from Vaes Dothrak through the ruined cities of Adakhakileki and Vaes Jini to Samyriana
- Added the Stone Roads of YiTi—the have the same movement level as the Valyrian roads added in the new update and connect all the major cities in YiTi.
