A king finds himself wakes up to find himself being dragged to the dungeons, his loyal retainers being murdered all around him. He sees a few of his lords leading some men-at-arms and feels relief, only to see them hack down more of his loyal guards. Placed in the dungeon ,he hears fighting, screams and chaos,he realises what has happened,he realises there has been a coup. The fighting ends in the morning, and he hears the door open. He sees his son and he feels hope, only to have it destroyed to see the traitor lords beside him. The look on his son’s face says it all,he had orchestrated this all,he had carried this out. His son looks at one of his compatriot,he nods and takes out his sword to finish the job-long live the king.
Sicne that doesnt say much about why i think that palace coups should be a thing but at least it gave you a bit of interest. It’s surprising that this isnt a thing given how commonplace these sorts of things were and still are. Like so many unnecessary kinslaying and heir killing has happend because of the fear of these things, its strange that there isnt a plot to carry out such a thing. Like the more skilled plotters and supporters you have the more likely it is to succeed with different levels of success, like the king is deposed but he escapes or that the coup fails and the plotters ecape resulting in a rebellion. Like so many interesting things can happen because of it. A few more additional minor title could be added as well, commander of the garrison, paymaster, chamberlains and other officers of the court who could help mitigate the chances of a coup if they are loyal
