Its been 7 years since crusader kings 2 was released with wonderful dlcs, expansion and content pack, and amazing mods but i think paradox should stop working on it and just focus on a follow up game. Not necessarily CK3 but something that takes the core concept of the game, dynasty and politcs simulator, and add more depth to the current mechanics. Paradox games are in all honesty a bit bland if you just play vanilla for a long time and it gains back it charm after you download mods or overhauls. It might partially be the massive amount of work that needs to be done in historical games like this, research, map design, localisation etc etc. So itd be better to just narrow the focus on just a specific region,in an interesting time period with good records and add depth and complexity to existing features and adding new ones.Like for one thing-rehauling diplomacy.Vanilla CK2 diplomacy is functional but restrictive and dull, dumbing down the entire process of statecraft to simple parameters taking away the entire possibility of dirty diplomacy and backroom dealing.Secondly wealth, lands, inheritance and marriage should be more indepth. Like the absence of populations in ck2,which is understandable given the lack of histoircal records, but if the game should choose to narrow its focus to a region rather than the world, like the HRE or Greece or Italy in antiquity, gives the opportunity to flesh the game out, rework the tiered hierachy of the game to account for the mess of relations between liges and vassals. It would be interesting to see what paradix has in plans for the next one if there is a next one that is.

I think they will start to work with Victoria 3 but it will be very sad when they will stop to give us these wonderful DLC-s.....

I hope CK2 eventually adds theocracy gameplay rather than having to wait until CK3 - I know they keep saying that its meant to be a dynasty simulator but the amount of Orsini and Borgia Popes and Cardinal reflects the fact even the papacy can be under dynastic control

Axioms Of Dominion is entering early access in December. This will probably never catch on but I refer to the genre of Axioms as: Fantasy DIP Strategy [D]iplomacy, ntrigue, olitics
Basically foreign affairs, shadowy affairs, and domestic affairs respectively.
Think like a Paradox game crossed with an Illwinter game, crossed with Shadow Behind the Throne. Google the game name with substack. There are also crafting and exploration systems like a better Eador/Thea.
If you find that Paradox games just don't do it for you simulation and character action wise this is probably your best bet.
I registered just to let the modders know there might be a game that can handle GoT total conversions better than CK2 and this seemed like a good topical place to say so. Not as fancy graphically, though.
