Hello.
(SKIP TO SUMMARY IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ THROUGH THIS WALL OF TEXT)
If you played in Essos for a while, you may have noticed how horribly boring it is to play as character who has those more... unknown or less polished religions.
Like Stone Cow of Faros, The Old ones, , Gods of Saath, Dark Ones or Great Shepherd.
There's very little flavor and reason to play with them, unless you have intend to roleplay.
That's why... WHAT IF some religions from Essos and Jade sea had option to reform themselves into more interesting, customized ones.
That would give incentive to people to experiment a little bit or play certain cultures + religions because they have access to unique doctrines/natures.
And for those who don't want to have this feature? Turn it off via rules.
•'Akchsually, reforming religions isn't canon and doesn't make sense.'
Yes, it doesn't make sense. However such feature makes Essos more interesting and more playable.
Also, reforming a religion shouldn't be something to consider canon. Times change, views on religion and religious customs change.
CK2 itself is completely non-canon too, since most of the time you make decisions which canonical character didn't do.
•'Buuuuut this requires for me to have Holy fury! And I don't have that DLC'
If you don't have it, maybe purchase it, considering it's one of the best DLCs ever released? Worth every penny.
•'Reformed religions don't add flavor though!'
True. They don't. It's nearly impossible to add flavor to unknown religions.
However reformed religions give you option to have AT LEAST SOMETHING.
Plus if Culture/Religion specific doctrines/natures are added, you'd have more reason to try out specific areas beside Rhollor controlled Essos or play Westerosi character for 1275th time.
SUMMARY:
- Flag religions with very few or none events and features as "pagan" and reformable.
- Reformation would cost huge amount of prestige + piety instead of having requirement of controlling holy sites.
- Some of the cultures/religions get their special own unique doctrines/natures.
- Re-make some of the core mechanics (like slavery or enatic succession) to take in account reformed religions.
- Rules are introduced to turn off/on reformation
Also side note, if this is approved, I'm willing to come up with more flavor events related to newly reformed religions + suggest possible doctrines/natures for each of the reformable religions.
