As of the ACOK bookmark, Ramsay Snow is marked as a legitimized bastard, while he was not given that mark by Robb Stark, instead receiving it as part of the package that came with Roose Bolton assuming Wardenship of the North.
Is this simply to ensure that the Bolton dynasty survives, or is it an oversight?
Upon the death of Roose, AI and players will still be incentivised to grant Ramsay the Bolton lands as per the inheiritance popup, or risk incurring tyranny.
Ramsay should retain the "bastard" trait, and lose the "legitimized_bastard" trait.

I think if this is implemented (and I agree that lore wise Ramsay is the "Bastard of the Dreadfort", not the heir or legitimised), Ramsay should have his dynasty set as one of the Bolton cadet dynasties, because, as you say, there is a sizeable chance Roose dies without getting another heir and even if Ramsay then inherits the dreadfort he would get a random dynasty with an autogenerated COA, at least if he were set to House Skinner or something you'd still have a Bolton themed COA and house name

A lot of these houses had cousins or distant kinsmen who could inherit other than roose, like none are mentioned but it’s not unreasonable to just create a few legitimate distant kinsmen who could inherit if Roose Bolton dies while keeping Ramsay a bastard. This is a problem with for a lot of rulers who don’t have direct heirs, but given that these families have ruled for centuries theirs at least a few kinsmen or cousins lying around this shouldn’t be an issue, especially since families can be generated(not sure to what extent, since it’s onky been for characters with no recorded families as well as being only for sons and daughters) so you know a thing to consider.

Sure but that's true of basically all houses that currently are on the verge of extinction in the mod - GRRM has said that there are Stark cadets in Barrowtonand White Harbour for example, and there are other branches of house Arryn besides the Gulltown Arryns, who are poorer but prouder. There are probably cousins of other houses like the glovers, and cerwyns in the north and the Carons and poddingfields in the stormlands, but in a way part of the fun with these houses is they are on the verge of extinction and you've got to work hard to bring them back from it, especially the starks or the arryns
