Have you ever had an intrigue based character and went “I killed all my brothers,my rivals and my liege so what do I do now?” I have and it seems like intrigue should allow you to explore the seedier practices of the realm. I’m playing as Turnbridge,a direct vassal to riverrun so expansion is difficult without either devolopimg the holdings or ammasing wealth. So almost all my characters were stewardship based characters . Once my ruler was high steward and high intrigue, you’re average littlefinger, yet I couldn’t exploit my skills. I couldn’t establish smuggler rings,or form robber bands like some disreputeable rulers have done in history . Neither could I create brothels or inns or act as a loan shark or moneylender. I understand that such an undertaking would be hard, especially since a new patch was released so the dev team have more bigger things to worry about but I hope that this gets considered in order provide more flavour when you play a petty Lord or business oriented character.

With the latest version you can invest your money into starting a bank of your own if you have 1000 gold and the business focus.

There's also a mod that has a GoT compatable form called the Great Trade League that allows you(Or a courtier representing you) to enter an international association of merchants money lenders and the like. It allows collecting resources, finding exploitable things like mines and flax fields, buying and trading both raw goods such as iron and grain and refined goods such as weapons and booze. You can deploy these into specific provinces by "Selling them on the market" for various bonuses like decrease build cost for lumber and stone or increased army moral for alcohol. You can also hire associated craftsmen to refine goods up the chain and expand profits, plus in war can economically attack provinces of people with your influence. Think in more recent versions there's even the potential for fuedal lords to band together in an economic war with the great trade league dumping money and manpower into wresting back control of their local economy.
But not sure that would be quite what your looking for. It also sometimes causes random MRs to appear since one of the upper level powers potentially allows you to convert yourself to an MR from fuedal.
