It always felt like a lost opportunity that after childhood you can’t send your kids or any relative to another court, especially to the king’s or queen’s court. I mean historically(as well as in Asoif lore) younger sons or even heirs went to other lords to gain glory, titles, money and boons for their family for their service. I think an event or decision to send a relative,or for the relatives to go to find service, to the court of another friendly lord or liege would have meaningful impact on roleplay as well how you can play a game and improve the stats of a character. In terms of roleplay it would be like reaffirming the loyalty of your character to your liege, establishing your younger sons and daughters where they’ll be able to serve and earn prestige and gold;or you could send a relative to act as spy and improve your plot power against a lord,or for them to serve in their council and improve their own stats. A player could send their relative to let say,The Iron Throne, and sway the kings opinion about you resulting in gifts or a place in the kings council(another suggestion that I intend to write),or a better marriage for that relative. I hope that others think this is interesting or that such an event is possible, but given the fact there are mods that allow you to send a son to varingian Guard or like the handmaidens submod I think it is.

In game terms, you would just be voluntarily handing over a hostage at best and giving away control of one of your children at worst.

Not 100% true, but the only mods I've seen handle it properly were quite event heavy systems(Such as ck2+ and their imperial court mechanics). Generally it'd require a lot of extra balancing and increase the weight of events to add in a propper system where your children can go to the top lieges court(Even if restricted to say empire tier) and have background events where they can gain traits, make friends with other courtiers(Since if your kid is there presumably most of the courtiers are from landed vassals so would be able to make friends with other heirs potentially), or other events to properly represent what you want. The question is would the amount of time to make it, and weight on the computer be worth it. Adding in traits like "Royal Officer" for martial, "Royal courtier" for stewardship and diplomacy, etc to gain would give nice small boosts to potential heirs(And vassals to boost the realm) and the potential gold from hob knobbing in the capital could boost minor lords, but I'm personally not 100% sold on the addition for agot as it stands.

I've never played CK2+ that sounds really cool but yeah something like that would be quite an undertaking.

The imperial court and faction overhaul are probably my two favorite parts of CK2+ since it brings the politics back into CK2 beyond what conclave did, with essentially political parties with agendas who can be boons or banes forming and having your court at top tiers be a more revolving door of influential families in the realm that benefit from the life at court and benefit you by granting you their skills and such. Though they often come in actively betrothed or being desired for marriages so it does increase the marriage spam Not that I'm advocating ripping systems from another mod or anything, that'd be bad(Though I wish I could be bothered to rip the carousing decision from this mod to either base game or ck2+ for personal use >.> But kinda lazy, which is why I wish I could be bothered).

CK+'s imperial system in AGOT? That would be like a dream come true. I am wholeheartedly with OP here.
