I haven't played for a long while, but what I do remember is how it irked me that enabling uhm "unfair" inheritance options were so player only flairs. What I mean was, stuff like sending sons to the citadel or the wall had (I'm not so sure with current or upcoming versions of the game) NO ai modifiers whatsoever, so the ai would never do them, and you'd only see members of your house or computer generated nobodies occasionally rise to Lord Commander. Also, there were a ton of other cool decisions that if you'd observe closely in their .txts in the mod file were also basically only player doable which the ai never bothered with. So, my suggestion is this: please make all "vanilla" AGOT decisons have reasonable ai modifiers. It kinda "overpowers" the player when he's the only one with the will and timing to enact these special decisions. Basically, tackle this problem in the same way you guys tackled the problem of female succession (in which to preserve their lines, female rulers or for-sure female heirs would force themselves to marry matrilineally). The event coding for that was brilliant, by the way. If, the ai was never meant to do these decisions and actually only came upon them via event, then increase the frequency of the event happening, because based on my memory it barely happened ever across 100 year playthroughs among top to lower tier noble houses. Special mention for adventurer and mercenary events for second sons, PLEASE INCREASE THEIR FREQUENCY for both ai and player families. After reading Fire and Blood and re-reading A World of ice and Fire, second children really HAD to go on adventures or mercenary expeditions if not for nothing then for their lack of income (no lands to inherit). If you chart the "doings" of the members of noble houses spanning several generations, in every other generation there was at least one son who took ship and became a mercenary or adventurer of some sort. I want to see that in "live" playthroughs, as in its happening in-game while you play. I don't want to just click the portraits of dead ancestors and see a couple of them with interesting lives. Remember, all of this is not supposed to be for the player's family BUT more importantly for the ai-families as they don't have a player to guide them to make interesting life choices.
Note: I really want this to become a permanent, fixed, and balanced part of the main AGOT game. I really don't want it to be a submod. I'm not really asking for any additions but rather for refinement and AI applicability (especially this - the ai is freaking dumb or boring most of the time).

It'd be nice if things like sending a son to a mercenary company was more tangibly advantageous, with a clear time frame of service after which they came back to your sevice, with some potential events that could fire to give them artefacts, ie they gain a non VS sword/mace/axe on their travels, give them a boost to martial to mirror the practical experience they be picking up, maybe they pick up a travelling companion who comes back with them so you get a high martial commoner from a random culture that is friends with your child you can appoint as a commander. You're right to point out that a lot of second sons go off to join mercenary companies, but they always seem to come back after a few years after they have gained prestige and wealth, so I think it should be more than just a way of getting rid of a son you have nothing to do with but a way of boosting their martial and picking up some new characters and items, if implemented right it might be a useful thing to do with your heir if they are an adult and you are long lived

Aebrad, nice follow-up, except I don't want to put so much emphasis on "your (player's)". I want these events and decisions to be available and frequently done and experienced by ai characters across planetos. I'm kinda peeved that the only interesting stuff happens to whatever house is controlled by the human player.

Yeah I completely agree, I put in the for your player comment more as an afterthought to show that these events would have wider applications, but yeah you're right I think these events should fire for every lord in planetos - think how fun it'd be if you're looking through kill lists and there's a random brother of your vassal who has killed a bunch of dothraki for norvos or something and then come back to serve his brother with a big martial a pentoshi sells word and a high quality mace for example! One thing I would note though is I think if they do it they might need to change the mechanics of holding a mercenary band title so you lose it if you inherit a lordship, i seem to remember I once gave one of my vassal's younger brothers command of the mercenary band I had raised and when his brother died he inherited but he was non feudal and the mercenary band was duke level so everything got messy

OP I think you are misunderstanding some things, because AI players can and do send people to the Nights Watch, the Citadel/Temple of R'hllor and have their children go off to join merc companies. Those events are all triggered through decisions, those decisions are where you will find the AI modifiers to determine how often they will do it.

Thanks for the reply Toccs. If that is so, I still stand by upping the frequency in which the ai chooses to enact those interesting decisions (in a balanced way - meaning maybe have a child join a mercenary company every other generation, have a generation where a lot of your children go off on adventures or quests; I say look at Tywin's brothers as an example!). The reason I want this done by the devs is the balanced part, this frequency that will hopefully be increased uniformly across all interesting decisions can't conflict with other interests of ai characters.
The reason why I really emphasize the "ai" part is that, as you said, maybe the ai does do it, but like what, once every 5 or more generations? Most of the time, those other family members are just sitting around in court doing nothing.
