Not entirely lore friendly I know, but if you conquer beyond the wall as a southern kingdom, ie the north or the iron throne, its a bit ridiculous that the nights watch just stay neutral and won't let themselves be vassalised, whats the logic in maintaining the independence of the NW when the lords of winterfell control both sides of the wall, and is there any way to vassalise the wall?

I mean, honestly, besides mechanics. I'd imagine, what would be the point of vassalizing the wall? it's like saying, the maesters must serve you, cause you control the reach. or the faceless men, must serve the lords of Braavos. So besides game mechanics, I'd assume, lore reasons as well. You never know what'll come from beyond the wall. I'm pretty sure there's stuff further north than you've read or seen, so, yeah.
But, mostly mechanics, I think.
