So the event where you go to a foreign realm and make a trade deal is pretty boring. Same choices each time. Same things that happen. Maybe the bandits get caught or they don't. If the trade deal goes through then cool, maybe you make a friend, and if not then maybe you make a rival.
Why not have a few other things that can happen while you're on the trade mission, though?
I suggested this before but I'll suggest again: if a Triarch stops you on your mission and 'asks' for a donation then there should be a penalty for refusing. Depending on their traits and their power level vs yours they may attempt to imprison you. Also, whatever Triarch/Magister is picked for this event should also NOT be the same character you get at the negotiation.
Anyway...
If you are going to the free cities then maybe you meet the ruler's siblings or adult children if they are at the court. Might become friends. If your heir is unmarried and they have an unmarried child then maybe a marriage can be suggested as part of the trade negotiations?
You might meet one of the leaders of a mercenary company and befriend them (presumably a discount from them if you hire them). Or they might offer for you to join them for the promise of fame and wealth after a few years (something like 2 to 4 years). If you do this then your character 'abdicates' to their heir and if they don't die, then in a few years they return home and current lord has the option to step down and let the previous ruler take their seat again. If you refuse, then the previous lord might become an adventurer claimant or just sit in your court disgruntled or someone else's court.
You might gain sympathy for their religion.
If you are not a Knight then a Knighthood might be offered as part of the trade deal.
An artifact might be offered.
Some of the feast events could fire.
If the trade deal doesn't go through then maybe we decide to try a different ruler in the same region rather than head home? (not available if content or slothful, or else you might be able to lose these traits if you do this).
A (very) small chance that the ruler and their treasurer go missing. If they do turn up, then maybe they were ship-wrecked somewhere and come back maimed but tougher from their ordeal? Or they were taken and tortured/mutiliated, or even went on another adventure and come back with wealth of a different sort.
If the ruler has spare titles then maybe you can negotiate paying a reasonable sum to land one of your younger sons or a sibling or uncle or other relative who is not heir or likely to become heir? Or the reverse, the potential trade partner can offer you a sum to grant a title to one of their sons/relative.
So basically, the Money focus event where you go and make a trade deal could be a bit like the "Go On a Foreign Tour" event.
