Compatible with AGOT version 1.6.1
I've recently played through the Telltale GOT game and came out of with a depression some ideas about handmaidens. Handmaidens currently exist in the mod, but are basically forgettable. You may get an event very occasionally to appoint one, that's it. What I saw in the Telltale game though was far more interesting, with handmaidens trying to use their position to get boons for their family at home, or trying to get a high marriage, etc. So since I didn't see anything existing like it, I've started work on a mod for it. Consider this version 1, there's more I'd like to do but there's only so many hours in the day. Two events (plus reactions) are included, as well as some tweaks to the handmaiden title. Not that extensively tested, but I think it's working fine for what it is. Download: www.dropbox.com/s/1asj0im2gfynq5l/AGOT%20Handmaidens.7z?dl=0Steam Workshop: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1301464189Current features: - Handmaidens can be as young as 14
- Female rulers can now appoint their own handmaidens (a strange oversight in the current system IMO)
- An (AI) ruler can send an unmarried daughter that is not an heir to a friend's higher court to serve as handmaiden
- Handmaiden friends: if you/your wife has more than one handmaiden, they can become friends... or rivals
Possible future ideas: - Handmaiden spy game: a chance of a handmaiden overhearing a plot by someone else at court, and reporting this to their employer
- Handmaiden rivalry: If two handmaidens are rivals, the employer will need to choose which to keep in their employ
- Handmaiden marriage: a handmaiden may petition the employer for a marriage (like how unmarried male courtiers already do)
- Handmaiden family help: a handmaiden can introduce her father/family head to her employer in the hopes of them becoming friends
Any others?

This looks pretty interesting, especially some of the future ideas you have listed. I too have always felt that handmaidens were kind of pointless and underused in the mod. Definitely gonna try this out, thanks!

This sounds really good. Going to give it a whirl after I grow bored with my current playthrough.

This sounds really cool. I love mods that flesh out the gameplay and character interaction! Are you interested in other possible ideas related to handmaidens?

While I imagine you may already plan to implement these, what about a decision to attempt recruit a handmaiden from one of your vassals (if any have a daughter who is suitable)? Also maybe a decision to send off a daughter to be a handmaiden for a your liege or another lord of the same rank.

That's also what I was thinking about. Vassals trying to gain favor by sending you their daughters as handmaidens. I think its important to pay attention to the rank of the court, so that even friends don't send their daughters into really small castles etc, because I don't think that would be done. Maybe there could also be some about them trying to seduce your unmarried heir or something - depending on the traits of course. On a later note their might be events where you have to decide to send a handmaiden home or stuff like that. Handmaidens were always really underestimated in the game which is a shame.
edit: also the use of favours maybe? like have your daughter at a higher court. That would make more sense if the prestige bonuses were bigger, and maybe if the wife /ruler is friends with the handmaiden they could make additions to the dowry? I don't know how doable it is the have the prestige of the handmaiden position change depending on what kind of court rank you have. Obviously these characterw ould also affect things like plots and so on. if the rulers wife has an affair they could either help cover it up and gain teh favour of the lady, or go to the lord. In that case they could be rewarded much like teh councilors: money, or arranging a marriage (to a son? or one of the councilors if they are unammried?). Or if the ruler is lusty becoming a lover on her own... thats a trait think again I think. Another thing is that relatives would ask for you to take their daughters as handmaiden, much like they ask to be given their own pieces of land. In some cases it might make sens eto have like an age limit? if the character has a family on her own, with parents etc, she would serve from age 14 to age 18/21? and then be send of to get married. I think giving like modifiers could be possible? I mean you get a bonus for bedding a handmaide, so they could get like +1 diplomacy or intrigue for having the position. In case of handmaiden without a family or landless they coudl ask you to arrange a marriage for them and give a dowry.

Surprised this isn't already part of the main mod. Handmaidens are underappreciated.

Surprised this isn't already part of the main mod. Handmaidens are underappreciated. It takes a lot of time to design and test events. I believe most of the handmaiden code was done by blackninja, and he was busy at the time with many other aspects of the mod (and of course now has no time for mods, working with Pdox). I am working on multiple things simultaneously myself and hope to get a few of the future ideas working correctly, soon, so I can upload a second version. My end goal is to make handmaiden a title you will want to have at your court because of the new possibilities having one at court will bring, just like you'd now never want to go without a chancellor.

Uploaded a minor fix, the handmaiden become friends event wasn't working right. Now it should.

Compatible with AGOT version 1.6.1
Possible future ideas: - Handmaiden rivalry: If two handmaidens are rivals, the employer will need to choose which to keep in their employ
I would keep this more rare. We all have to work with people we do not enjoy or simply put them on different work schedules. It's more likely they would plot to get the employer to hate the other one.

I may try to make this an event chain instead where the rivalry is either ended or gets worse before it ends up with the queen. I'm working on some new stuff for this, no ETA for the next update yet though.

When I used this it didn't work all that well. Friends would keep sending daughters to my court, but I couldn't actually make them handmaidens. As well, having a character send all their daughters (even if they have only daughters) seems like it could break the game.

There should already be a check in place that it doesn't send heirs to foreign courts. I'll take a look at some more restrictions when I update this next.
