Every 5 years an election is held to determine the new Archon and their council. The old Archon and councillors may take on the governorship of a colony. There is a tooltip in the first election event with more detail.

Is there anyway to keep earned titles after an Election or be Archon back to back?

There is a tooltip in the first election event with more detail. Could you clarify what are the weights for choosing the new head archon? I've noticed that he's often not the successor listed on the Republic Screen, so they must be something other than age + prestige + campaign funding. I really like the uncertainty of the system, but I would like to understand it a little better, at least so I can make more informed choices on choosing my family's designated heir.

Is there anyway to keep earned titles after an Election or be Archon back to back? Regarding your second question, you can't get elected to consecutive terms, but, in the laws screen, you can put forward a vote for becoming an Archon for Life, at the cost of -10 general opinion.
