Hi there, new to the forum.
Longtime fan of the mod, but not a huge fan of the stillbirth mechanism. I've poked around birth_events text file, but i'm unsure of what to modify to lower the chance of stillbirths.
I'm not asking to rid myself entirely of it; merely to lower the chance of it firing. Does anyone know how to do that? All of the threads on it are pretty old, and no longer applicable to the current mod version.
Thank you!

Hi sapiensursus, I've never tried that, but have you tried twiddling with the numbers in this part of common\scripted_effects\00_scripted_effects.txt:
stillbirth_chance_effect = { if = { limit = { NOT = { has_character_flag = flag_stillbirth } NOT = { health = 10 } } random = { chance = 2 modifier = { factor = 1.98 NOT = { health = 9 } } [abridged for brevity's sake] modifier = { factor = 1.10 NOT = { health = 1 } } set_character_flag = flag_stillbirth } } } From what I gather (I've not read all the dependent mod code), this gives random odds depending on the pregnant woman's health:
- 10+: 0%
- 9+: 2%
- 8+: 3.96% (2 * 1.98)
- 7+: 5.90% (2 * 1.98 * 1.49)
- 6+: 7.79% (2 * 1.98 * 1.49 * 1.32)
- 5+: 9.66%
- 4+: 11.49%
- 3+: 13.33%
- 2+: 15.06%
- 1+: 16.72%
- <1: 18.39%
Simply changing the "chance = 2" line to "chance = 1" should effectively halve the aforementioned odds but you might want to get rid of the whole reasoning based on the woman's health, who knows.
Please keep us tuned if you get good results so that others may use this if they stumble on this thread
Thanks

While looking, keep in mind a woman can take moon tea, resulting in a stillbirth.
