Question / Thought -
If you conquer Westeros (prior to Aegon or I guess as Aegon though I’ve never done that bookmark), as a non-faith of the seven religion, then use the intrigue link to create a kingsguard, is there a way to have the “knight trait” not be one of the requirements?
I understand current timelines given it’s already established and those are the rules but prior too, you’re creating it from scratch. Aegon made it Fot7 but that doesn’t mean everyone would’ve.
Just a thought / wasn’t sure if there was an option I missed.
Thanks as always.

They don't have to be knights. The options you are presented are all knight I believe, but when none of the corresponding events are open, you can invite pretty much anyone in your realm that isn't landed or married to be a Kingsguard. However, certain choices, such as the person not being a knight (I think), can cause your vassals, or some of them, to have a negative opinion debuff.

Yes, you get a penalty for “appointed foreigner to kingsguard” for any non-Andal culture (including ironborn, northerner, and dornish). You also get one for appointing lowborns. Frankly, I find them excessive, but you can still appoint anyone who’s a good enough duelist.

In general it's mostly a representation of the prestige of joining the kingsguard. I'd rather see an alternative decision for non-FotS conquerers of westeros that's more generic bodyguard with some mechanics, perhaps for any emporer tier title that is like 10 bodyguards at a time and allows you to use a decision to assign them a castle for their order much like the new heir title thing.
