So, I'm playing Jon and the event triggered (been schmoozing Howland hoping it would work), and I declared the heritage.... But it still lists Ned as the father. As a test, I triggered the dynasty choice, and it *still* lists Ned. Anybody know what (if anything) I did wrong?

It doesn't switch parents or dynasty until you (or Daenerys as your spouse, iirc) sits on the Iron Throne. The latter scenario is actually a pain in the ass to pull off, since declaring your heritage hurts her opinion of you, but doesn't switch your dynasty to gain those positive modifiers, so it's basically impossible to play Jon (1) declaring himself Targaryen and (2) supporting Dany's claim.

Crowning yourself as king in the north also gives option to switch the dynasty with the fastest way i think is to have stannis loose vs tommen and annoy tommen enough for him wanting to imprison you. Then you can rebel and crown yourself.
