Do you just right click and imprison your dragon to put it in the pit or what? Because he has still flown away like a half dozen times (save-scumming because I'm trying to understand)

I don't think you can just 'imprison' them after you've tamed and released it. there is an event you get though, when the dragon is free and freefolk complain about it, you get 3 options sometimes, leave it be, pay them off, or rarely (dunno what determines it, it appears and dissapears randomly) to face it with your "men" and put it back into the Dragon pit.

I must just have bad luck, I dont think I've ever seen that option on that event. I have gotten the event though.

Yea i haven't paid enough attention to track the cause of it, it's probably one of the five stats when you hit high enough numbers. PS, this is what i mean, for instance this option appears because of my high diplomacy : imgur.com/a/CvlivE3

Interesting..... I recal the option being there at some point, though not sure after wich update or if a mod enabled it that way.

From what I understand, which is admittedly and probably limited, you can put the dragon in the pit if it's "paired" with you character. The only times I've seen the option pop up is either when my characters was a dragon rider and I could put my own specific dragon in the pit OR if my character inherited a dragon from its predecessor but didn't tame it yet. If it's a wild dragon unassociated with anyone the option won't appear because you need to tame it first, and I'm not sure about your courtier's dragons.
