Picture a bloody battlefield littered with the corpses of your dead or dying enemies. You pan over the mass of screaming soldiers, hacking at each other as the tattered banners of their houses flutter over them in the thick air filled with the stench of sweat and blood. Now, let's say that amongst that carnage there is a frail, depressed, craven, drunkard formidable fighter that comes up against a giant, strong, brave and ruthless trained fighter. Even though the trained fighter has a much higher Personal Combat Skill (PCS) due to his stacking traits, does the formidable fighter, with a much lower PCS than his 'less skilled' opponent, still have a much greater chance of winning the duel because he is technically the better swordsman? At the moment, when I am choosing worthy knights for my Kingsguard, I don't know whether to go for a formidable fighter with crappy traits and a PCS of 10 or a trained fighter with god-tier traits and a PCS of 100.
I know it says in the pre-game options for duel outcome randomness that a 'formidable fighter will have an 80% of defeating a skilled fighter' or something to that effect, but does that include craven, one-legged formidable fighters against brave, strong skilled fighters?
As a side question, does the duelling engine come into play for the outcome of tournaments? If not, are there any traits that affect the outcome of that? I only ask because, I swear, I've been playing this mod for years and I rarely ever win these even as a formidable fighter with a PCS of 120. Now I try my best to avoid them because, instead of winning a fat pile of cash and prestige, I usually just end up losing stewardship or discovering that I like my young squire in that way. Either that or some village idiot with the accuracy of a stormtrooper turns me into a shish kebab.
