Currently you lose 10/15 prestige for having a family relative lose a round but only gain 5 prestige for having a family member advance. With a big family this can really dent prestige and doesn't make a whole lots of sense. You get a bit if your family actually wins, but often it may not even be enough to overrule all the small hits if you have a lot of family members competing.
