As of the recent combat system calculations, it seems anything a combat score over 220 will cause it to miscalculate and cause you to lose against people that have say a combat score of 40. Soon as I removed a trait via console and disabled an artifact to bring it to 220 I haven't experienced a defeat to anyone, but over that and suddenly it's a defeat left and right.
Haven't had the same result in duels, only jousting.
