So my initial impression is that yes - at least for one generation it gets ride of passing any NW titles to family of the Black Brothers. I haven't gone beyond the first LC so though so bear with me. However, it appears that making the HL of the Wall the primary title makes everything use vanilla Open Elective as opposed to the mod-specific Night's Watch Elective. I imagine this could affect voting and flavor events down the line. I'll have to see.... It's no problem, I was dealing with this issue myself a while back and found that this was the easiest way to deal with it. As far as I can tell the Open Elective succession of the HL of the Wall doesn't affect anything unless you are playing as the Lord Commander - due to the fact that the titular Night's Watch title remains tied to the HL of the Wall the "New Lord Commander on the Wall" event and call to arms events from the Lord Commander always work in my games.

Thanks so much, good to know. Now I feel like playing this again. It sucks to not have a Wall to send anyone too. Still, this should def be patched for 2.2 AGOT. I hope we drew enough attention to it here. Hey Paxter Redwyne you're a moderator please tell the devs!

So not that anyone probably even looks on here anymore, but I found out WHEN this happens, if not exactly WHY. For the War of Conquest start with Aegon the Conquerer, etc, the Night's Watch succession bugs out for Lord Commander Harras IF Orbert "The Black Centaur" is the nominated successor! If it is a different black brother, there is no issue! Doing some digging in ASOIAF history, The Black Centaur WAS a Lord Commander of the Night's Watch at some point in it's history, for nine years, but it is never stated WHEN. Presumably, the game wishes his reign to happen after Harras. For whatever reason, trying to make him the LC nominee does something that makes Harras' brother Harren the Black, and thus his sons after him, the nominees...
Now...I just need to figure out WHY in the files this is happening and where the error might be so I can fix it.
This is Orbert. He can be found in history->characters->reach ancestors.txt
3003264 = { name="Orbert" # Robert's son, Lord Commander of Night's Watch dynasty=264 martial=12 stewardship=10
religion="the_seven" culture="reachman"
father=3000264 mother=4000264
7971.1.1 = {birth="7971.1.1"} 7988.1.1 = {add_trait=master_warrior add_trait=knight} 7990.1.1 = { add_trait=nightswatch give_nickname=nick_the_black_centaur } 8036.1.1 = {death="8036.1.1"} }
Sooooo...turns out I was wrong, the common factor IS NOT him, but the fact I made him a Commander. If the count-level commanders of Eastwatch or the Shadow Tower, or any of the baron-level, castle commanders, are the nominee, it defaults to givingthe High Lordship of the Wall and Castle black to King Harren. So...the issue is that ranking members of the Night's Watch can't be nominated without screwing up succession for some reason. If the nominee is an unlanded black brother however, all is well.
Additionally, many of the baron-level commanders are taking wives, when their traits should prevent that.
