Hi Everyone...this is my first AAR...so I'm sorry if there are typos or anything like that. I hope you enjoy my version of Aegon's Conquest of Westeros
Also, I plan on adding more later, so I guess you can say this is more like a background before the storytelling.
We start at the beginning, when Aegon Targaryen has conquered Blackwater Bay with his dragon, Balerion the Dread. He’s given a choice: conquer Westeros, conquer Essos, or make peace and create alliances. The choice was clear; conquer Westeros.
Aegon set his sights on the Kingdom of the Iron Aisles first. The conquest began but Aegon quickly realized that he was outmatched. He rode north and met with the King in the North, Torrhen Stark, and formed an alliance. With this new alliance, the Kingdom of the Iron Aisles quickly fell. Torrhen immediately began attacking the Iron Islands while Aegon mustered all his men for a direct attack against the forces of Harrenhal. With the might of over 10,000 men and help from his sister-wife Visenya and his bastard brother Orys Baratheon, Aegon quickly sieged the famed castle. Harren Hoare, King of the Iron Aisles, mistakenly assumed that his castle could withstand any attack, including that of dragon fire, but he learned his mistake when Aegon walked into his throne room and clapped him in irons. With the capture of Harren, the conquest was over. Surprisingly enough, Aegon did not need to use Balerion in the siege and the castle was sparred.
He usurped Harrenhal from the Hoare’s claiming it for his own, while creating the Kingdoms of the Iron Islands and the Trident. He named House Greyjoy as Lord Paramount’s of the Iron Islands and House Tully as Lord Paramount’s of the Trident. For his aide at the Siege of Harrenhal, Aegon legitimized Orys Baratheon, naming him a full Targaryen.
During his conquest, Aegon impregnated both of his sister-wives, Visenya and Rhaenys, who in turn gave birth to two girls, Syaella and Calla. After the conquest, Aegon commissioned his Hand to begin rebuilding Oldstones, the seat of House Mudd, the Kings of the Rivers and Hills.
There was a short time of peace before Aegon launched his next conquest against the Kingdom of The Rock. House Greyjoy, Tully, and Stark answered his calls and called their banners. Soon it was a full on war. With enemies coming at them from all sides, Loren Lannister, King of The Rock, called his ally, Argilac Durrandon, King of the Stormlands, to aide in the war. Argilac called his banners and launched a direct attack against Aegon.
However, Aegon’s forces were much stronger and easily defeated Argilac’s forces and besieged his castle at Storms End. This time, however, Aegon had no qualms about using Balerion in battle and quickly besieged the castle. Although there was much damage, Storms End was able to be repaired. While Aegon was fighting Argilac, Orys was fighting Loren at Casterly Rock. But after losing his only ally in the war, Loren called for a ceasefire and surrendered his kingdom to Aegon. Loren bent the knee and swore allegiance to Aegon.
During this conquest, same as the last, Aegon impregnated both Visenya and Rhaenys again and they gave birth to two boys, Aegon and Aerion. Aegon became Aegon’s official heir. To award Orys for his bravery during the assault of Casterly Rock, Aegon granted him the Lordship of Oldstones.
Next on Aegon’s list was The Reach. He began his conquest and House Greyjoy, Lannister, Tully, and Stark were called to battle. Mern Gardener, King of The Reach, knew he was outnumbered and sued for peace within a month. Despite Mern’s attempt at peace, Aegon didn’t trust him but allowed him to keep his lands and titles. But Aegon’s instinct was right. Shortly after the conquest ended, Aegon’s spymaster informed him that House Gardener was conspiring to overthrow him. After finding out, Aegon decided to seize all of House Gardener’s lands and titles. But Mern refused to go without a fight and called all his banners to battle. But Mern was too late, over half of the duchies in The Reach had already sworn themselves to Aegon. With half of The Reach against him and the rest of Aegon’s forces, Mern was easily defeated. House Gardener was stripped of all their lands and Oswyle of House Tarly was installed as Lord Paramount of the Reach. Aegon originally asked House Hightower, but they declined saying that protecting the Maester’s of the Citadel was their priority.
As with the other conquests, Aegon needed some down time and both Visenya and Rhaenys were impregnated. Viserra and Laerion were born shortly after Mern was deposed.
Although a truce was established with House Durrandon after the Conquest of The Rock, Aegon’s next target was the Stormlands. Despite being low on men after fighting alongside Loren, Argilac called his banners to defend The Stormlands. But Argilac made one crucial mistake, he left Storms End undefended. Aegon quickly laid siege to Storms End, but this time Balerion didn’t hold back. Although the castle was left unscathed, all the other lands in the province were left in ruins. As punishment for not learning after the first time he was defeated, Argilac and House Durrandon were stripped of all their lands and titles. To replace Argilac, Aegon installed Selywn of House Tarth as Lord Paramount of the Stormlands.
As with every other conquest, Aegon bedded Visenya and Rhaenys again, giving birth to Daeoril and Valaena.
Deciding not to waste any more time, Aegon declared conquest of the Kingdom of the Vale and the Kingdom of the North simultaneously. Both King Torrhen and King Ronnel Arryn bent the knee peacefully as they realized they could not fend off Aegon and his dragons.
With the conquest of the North and the Vale over, Aegon took a few months to rest and recuperate after hard campaigns. But with rest comes pleasure and both Visenya and Rhaenys gave birth. Visenya to Daenaera and Rhaenys to Baeryn.
All that was left was Dorne to conquer, but Aegon thought strategy. The people of Westeros were put through too many wars for one lifetime. He decided to stop his campaign of conquest and being rebuilding. His first decision; where would he rule from. His small council provided him with four recommendations. The first was Oldtown, but Aegon knew that he couldn’t rule from the same city that housed the Citadel. Next was Dragonstone, but Aegon refused. He wanted all of his people to visit the capital of his empire, not just those that could afford a boat. Next he was offered Blackwater Bay, a province that he could build how he saw fit. But Aegon declined again, much to his council’s dismay. He didn’t want his legacy to be about taxing his peoples just so he could build his own stronghold. So, it was decided, King Aegon Targaryen, the First of His Name, King of the Andals and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm would rule his newly formed kingdom from…Harrenhal.
