Over the years a deeper and more detailed banking system for the mod has been a common suggestion, and it is something that I have been contemplating for a while. For our next update such a system has been created, and I'm hoping it will better represent the power and wealth of the Iron Bank.
There will be 4 active bank societies, which only inhabitants of their home kingdoms can join:
- The Iron Bank of Braavos, the most powerful and wealthy bank. Active from the time of Braavos' founding.
- The Rogare Bank, the bank of the Lysene Rogare family active around the Dance of the Dragons period.
- The Ancient Bank of Qarth, active in all periods. This is made up so as to provide banking options for the far east.
- The Bank of Valyria, active in Pre-Doom bookmarks. Again made up, to provide banking before the Iron Bank.
The process of taking out loans remains similar, except you may now get a choice of banks. As before your loan is based on your income, but interest rates can now vary. If you have defaulted on a debt in the past for example your interest will be higher. You can also choose to take a loan from a 'minor bank'. This loan is not from a society and so your enemies cannot be funded in event of a default, however interest rates are higher.
As mentioned before inhabitants of the dejure kingdom in which the bank is based may join the society. The ranks are as follows:
ENVOY
Mission: Spend time working at the bank
Mission: Can be sent to negotiate loans and collect debts
Power: Recruit banker
Power: Reduce loan interest
KEYHOLDER
+1 Stewardship
Investment of gold needed to advance to this level
Owns 1 share in the bank
Mission: Spend time working at the bank
Mission: Can be sent to negotiate loans and collect debts
SHAREHOLDER
+2 Stewardship
Investment of gold needed to advance to this level
Owns 5 shares
Mission: Can be sent to negotiate loans and collect debts
Power: Offer cheap loan to an enemy of a debtor to rival bank
HIGH COUNCILLOR
+3 Stewardship
Owns 5 shares
Mission: Build bank fortifications
Power: Can vote/decide on action to take against defaulters
An investment of gold is needed to become a Keyholder or Shareholder, but these ranks are inheritable by your family. These higher rank members may receive dividends if the bank does well, or may be called to invest further if the bank is short on coin.
The methods by which the bank recovers debt have been expanded. In the event of a debtor defaulting, the High Councillors decide whether to take action, and the mission of recovering the debt will either be passed to a lower rank member or taken on by a High Councillor. This member of the bank may try and diplomatically recover the debts before resorting to funding the enemies of the debtor. Or they may try and subtly remove the debtor, in the hope their heirs are more amenable.
This, in addition to the other missions and events, will hopefully provide some interesting flavour to Braavos and other banking locations. If you want to bring this flavour to you it will also be possible to establish your very own banking society:
