I wanted to play a game where my character ruled a merchant republic in the arbor. I started by customizing my character and once in game I used commands to switch to a third party character, take away my lands, give myself the cities which makes me a republic, and give myself back the county and duchy, this usually works in vanilla. I then saved and switched back to my character and immediately got and end of game screen due to "being a republic". I have all of the dlc and the free cities are all playable but when I load the save and select my old character in the arbor who is a merchant republic, the play button is greyed out and it says I cant play him. Is there some sort of special tag or modifier I must give the arbor in the files in order for it to be a playable republic? I tried checking some of the files myself but nothing obvious stood out. Also I am on the latest version. I use to play crusader kings 2 and AGOT mod all the time but I just recently have just been getting back into this stuff after a year. Sorry if I missed an important update for ck2 or AGOT where something made this change.

When you give him the duchy does he change government forms from republic to merchant republic and have the other 4 families form? I've created MR vassals before but you need to make sure they switch governments-may need to wait a day for the patricians to form, but not sure.
